When I think of fashion icons that I admire tremendously I think of women like Kate Moss & Rihanna to Olivia Palermo and Nicole Ritchie then I think of the one and only, Tierra Owens. Tierra’s stand out fashion sense is what sets her apart from every other women and her sense of style is admired by every one who is blessed by her presence, including myself.

Whether she uses Vintage pieces to play up an outfit or her funky curls to make a statement, she is a woman of perfection and has yet to let me down.

I thought why not share her style with the rest of the world since I am ever so lucky to see it in person. If she doesn’t inspire you to take that extra step outside of the box when it comes to your own personal style then I don’t know who will.

So here it is..

DJ, Fashionista, Vintage expert, Beauty Queen. Baddest Bitch I know & other wise known as 'Mother Tierra'…

The one and only.

Tierra Owens.

Who do you dress for? Guys? Girls? Yourself?

I like to dress for myself. I think of what my mood is, what represents me, what will stand out. With that mentality I have an outfit that not only appeals to me but guys and girls also :)

What is the most outrageous outfit you have worn to date?

When I was 20 i got in to Congress on a Thursday night, the best night of the week. I wore a nude tube top as a high waisted skirt and a blood red vintage scarf like a halter top and nothing underneath!! I was insane, but it looked hot i guess.

What has been your favorite outfit you have ever worn?

This is such a hard question, but I'd have to say this outfit I call "My Madonna outfit". Black high waisted business pants that cover my shoes, crop top/bra, with a vintage Giorgio Armani black blazer (huge shoulder pads still intact). This outfit reminds me of Madonnas "Vogue" video, it's my favorite because I feel like a powerful WOMAN.

What is your staple item that you just can’t get enough of?

Staple item has to be a backless dress or any sort of fitted mini dress with my cowgirl boots and some sort of jewelry piece with a statement.

You’re DJing at a club, what would you rock?

I like to rock my big afro to be incognito. A cool graphic tank top with side boobage and leather leggings. Oh! and a bad ass ring to show off when my hands are on the turntable.
I think it is safe to say you pull off the big curls look the best. What is your favorite hairstyle?

As much as i love my big girls I really love my hair straight!! Its easier to deal with and I can wear cute hats :}

What has been your best vintage find?
It would have to be a tie between this bright red fur coat with huge shoulders (perfect for NY).. and this mid 1960s retro jumpsuit, it looks like an outfit you'd wear to entertain a party and greet your guests with an elegant martini in Beverly Hills.

If you could model for any brand in the world, who would it be?

I do love Marc Jacobs and Ana Sui but if I could grace the cat walk in a Giorgio Armani dress I would die a pleased young lady.

What is your inspiration when in front of the camera?

Grace Jones and Madonna

Top three favorite places to shop:

Swindler's, Sunset Clothing, How Sweet Is Was Vintage

Your number one statement piece?

I have this gold wire huge ring in the shape of Africa my cousin gave me because we are both bi-racial. I only wear it when the mood is right.

Which decade of fashion do you admire most?

Favorite decade of fashion I'd say the 60s. I love the early 60s in London with bright colors, mini dresses and funky retro patterns just seemed so alive. The late 60s was such a radical era peeking in to the "Woodstock" hippie stage with a Bohemian flare and sexuality. But I also could never resist the 90s grunge era since I was a kid watching Daria.

Describe your style in one word:

Dominate.

What do you feel sexiest in?

Anything Backless

How would you describe the fashion in Tucson?

Southwestern Casual. Vintage. Grungy. Eccentric. Everyone should own a pair of boots!

Best sellers in Swindlers?

I'd say Swindlers best sellers are denim shorts and graphic Tank top and T shirts. Our "Hey Babe" Bodysuits always did so well.

What inspires your style the most?

I want to say Tucson inspires me the most. I like looking like I am from Tucson. I love wearing my western boots.

When I was asked to write a guest post for Canadian fashion website Stratamode I was beyond honored because I am such a big fan of this fabulous fashion website. Stratamode is always so up to date with what is new in the fashion world and the website exudes an innovative way of connecting fashion friends and sharing fashion trends internationally.

I decided to interview one of my best friends, Morgan Cater and get the real dirt on what her outrageously fabulous style is all about. Girls at the University of Arizona admire her daring taste of fashion and every one, including myself envies her courage to step outside the mold and experiment with styles that are completely out of the box. Take a look into this future fashion icon’s creative mind and take it all in, she’s simply genius. Here is a sneak peak on One Life Chic of the long-awaited post!
What inspires your style the most?

Vintage. Whether it may be subtle or not, the past is IN and I’m on board. High waisted bottoms, unique sunglass frames, flared sleeves, it’s all genius. Without a doubt, old trends evolving into new trends inspires my style the most!

Who is a style icon you admire? and why?

Although she may have been a fictional character, Carrie Bradshaw, has to be one of my favorite style icons. Whether she was dressed down or dressed to impress her style was so fun and unique.

Describe the difference between SF fashion and fashion at the University of Arizona.

In San Francisco the fashion is edgy and bold. The fashion at the University of Arizona is interesting. It’s very “cookie-cutter” – wearing a bandage dress or a high waisted skirt and a blouse every night isn’t fashion. I’ll leave it at that.

What would you never be caught dead wearing?

KITTEN HEELS (Even though Carrie may have rocked them in her day, I could never)

Words to live by?

Love me or hate me, it’s still an obsession!
